Family Mini Session: Pre-Teen Energy, Doodle Dog Chaos & Real Life Moments

If you’ve ever tried to take family photos with a pre-teen and a doodle, you already know: you don’t plan the session… you roll with it. This mini session was equal parts laughter, eye rolls, puppy zoomies, and those quiet little moments that sneak up on you.

And honestly? That’s where the good stuff lives.

When Your Dog Thinks They’re the Main Character

The doodle absolutely stole the show. There were leash tangles, surprise kisses, and at least one moment where everyone stopped to laugh because the dog decided to sit directly on someone’s feet. Instead of fighting the chaos, we leaned into it — because this dog is part of the family, and these moments are the ones you’ll actually remember.

Pre-Teen Energy = Real Personality

Pre-teens are in that in-between season: not little kids anymore, not quite teenagers either. There were playful smiles, dramatic sighs, and moments of genuine connection with her parents that felt soft and real. The goal wasn’t to force a “perfect” smile — it was to capture who she is right now.

Why Mini Sessions Work for This Season of Life

Mini sessions are short enough to keep things light, but long enough to catch those real moments in between the chaos. With young kids, pre-teens, and a dog in the mix, you don’t need a long, drawn-out session — you need space to move, laugh, reset, and just be together.

The Kind of Photos You’ll Love Later

These aren’t chaotic, blink-and-you-miss-it moments — they’re the kind of posed photos that still feel like you. Everyone showed up, stood close, and gave me those in-between smiles that happen when you’re trying not to laugh at the dog doing something ridiculous just off camera. You can still feel the personality in them. Calm on the surface, real life just outside the frame.
