How to Make Your Senior Photos Uniquely You

Senior year is a huge milestone—and your senior photos should feel just as special and personal as the journey that brought you here. While a beautiful location and perfect light help set the scene, what truly makes a senior session stand out is YOU. Your interests, your personality, your story.

Here are some of my favorite ways to personalize your senior session so your photos feel as unique as you are:

Show Off Your Passions

Are you an athlete? Musician? Artist? Whether you’re a varsity softball player or a theater kid through and through, bring that into your session! A soccer ball, violin, sketchbook, or letterman jacket are all awesome props that add meaning and variety to your gallery.

Bring Your Pet (Yes, Really!)

Your dog is part of the family—so why not include them? I’ve had seniors bring their pups, horses, and even cats (yes, it’s happened!). Just let me know ahead of time and we’ll make sure to choose a pet-friendly location.

P.S I did not have a Senior Pet photo to share! I guess no one believes me when I say Bring Your Pet!! I really do mean it!

Incorporate Your Ride

If you’ve got a car, truck, motorcycle, or even a dirt bike that you love—let’s use it! Vehicles can be a super fun way to show your personality and give your photos a cool edge, especially in more urban or open field settings.

Use Props with Purpose

Props don’t have to feel cheesy. A favorite book, your camera if you love photography, a skateboard, fishing gear—if it’s something you actually love, it can help tell your story. These little details give your session personality and spark natural, candid moments.

Wear What Feels Like You

Outfit changes are a great way to express your style. Bring a mix of casual and dressy looks—or even something fun like a prom dress or vintage band tee. I always encourage seniors to choose outfits that they feel confident and comfortable in.

Pick a Meaningful Location

While I’ve got plenty of tried-and-true locations around Duluth and Superior, I love when seniors have a spot that means something to them. Your family cabin, your favorite hiking trail, the football field—it all helps tell your story.

Let’s Create Something That Feels

Authentically You

My goal with every senior session is to make you feel seen, celebrated, and comfortable just being yourself. No forced poses or awkward smiles—just real, natural moments that reflect who you are in this once-in-a-lifetime season of life.
