Think You Can’t Get Great Family Photos in a Mini Session? Think Again.
I hear it all the time:
“Fifteen minutes? There’s no way we’ll get good photos that fast.”
Spoiler alert: Yes. We absolutely will. The photos above were all captured in fifteen minutes at last years Fall Mini Sessions day. And I mean Com'on could this family be any cuter?
Mini sessions are short—but don’t let the timeline fool you. They’re full of laughter, movement, connection, and most importantly—real moments. If you’re worried that your toddler won’t sit still, your partner will blink through the whole thing, or that you’ll feel rushed, let me just say this: I’ve got you.
Here’s why mini sessions do work (and why they might just be perfect for your family):
- Kids love them. They’re quick, fun, and over before anyone has a chance to get cranky. We play, we laugh, we move fast—and that keeps the energy high and the smiles real.
- You don’t need a full hour to capture the good stuff. I know exactly what to look for and how to guide you through poses (without making you feel awkward). We make the most of every minute.
- Real moments > perfect posing. It’s not about stiff smiles or sitting still. It’s about hugs, hand-holding, messy giggles, and that look your little one gives you when you think no one’s watching.
Spring & Fall Minis vs. Standalone Mini Sessions: What’s the Difference?
So let’s break it down—what’s the difference between my advertised mini sessions (like the ones I do in spring and fall) and a standalone mini session?
They’re both short, sweet, and great for capturing beautiful moments. But there are a few key differences to know before you book!
Advertised Mini Sessions (Spring & Fall Minis)
These are the mini sessions you’ll see announced ahead of time—usually in spring and fall when the colors (and the lighting!) are absolutely dreamy. Here’s what you can expect:
- Set date + location: I pick the spot and the day(s), and you grab a time slot that works for you.
- Back-to-back sessions: I book multiple families or clients at the same location, spaced out throughout the day.
- Quick & efficient: Typically 15–20 minutes long, these are great for updated family photos, kids, couples, or even pets!
- Limited spots: These tend to book quickly because they’re seasonal and offer a great value.
Think of them as photo day—but way more fun, relaxed, and full of golden light or vibrant fall leaves.
Standalone Mini Session
Not available on the big mini session days? Or want something just a little more personalized, but don’t need a full hour? That’s where a standalone mini comes in.
- Flexible date + location: We work together to choose the perfect spot and time that works for your schedule.
- More relaxed pace: Since there aren’t other clients waiting behind you, there’s more breathing room to customize the vibe.
- Still short & sweet: Just like the advertised minis, this is a shorter session (typically 20–30 minutes), ideal for quick portraits or small family updates.
- Available year-round: Great for birthdays, announcements, or just because!
These sessions are perfect if you’re looking for flexibility without committing to a full-length session.
So, Which One’s Right for You?
If you’re flexible on timing and want a great deal—go for the seasonal minis.
If you need a custom date or want a quieter experience—standalone is the way to go.
Either way, you’ll walk away with beautiful, authentic images of the people you love most.
Got questions? I’m happy to help you decide what fits your needs best—or get you on the list for the next round of minis!
And let’s be honest—sometimes fifteen minutes is all the time you’ve got between naps, snacks, or soccer practice.
So if you’ve been putting off family photos because you’re short on time or worried about getting “enough” in a mini session… don’t be. Let’s capture your people, just as they are, in the most beautiful and honest way. Quick, easy, and full of heart.
Mini sessions really can be magic. And the good news is there will be dates announced for Spring Minis very soon!!!
