More Than Just Family Photos | Brule, WI Family Photographer
Some family sessions are about checking "updated family photos" off the list.
Others become an evening everyone genuinely enjoys.
This spring family session in Brule, Wisconsin was one of those evenings.
From the moment we met, it was obvious this family simply enjoys being together. There wasn't any pressure to force smiles or convince the kids to cooperate. Jake and Andrea have raised two wonderfully funny, easygoing kids, and that relaxed dynamic made the entire session feel effortless.
One of my favorite things about family photography is that no two families are alike.
Some are quiet.
Some are adventurous.
Some spend the entire session laughing.
The Dunphys definitely fit into that last category.
Their laughter wasn't something I had to create—it was already there.
As a photographer, those are the sessions I love most because it allows me to focus on documenting genuine connection instead of directing every moment.
One thing that made this session a little different was how we planned the evening.
Rather than photographing just one family, we combined two related family mini sessions at the same location. Each family received their own individual gallery, and at the end we created a large family portrait together.
It's a wonderful option for extended families who want updated individual family portraits without coordinating multiple dates. Everyone is already together, the kids get to spend time with their cousins, and everyone walks away with beautiful memories.
One unexpected highlight of the evening still makes me smile.
Somewhere during the session we discovered that blowing raspberries on someone's cheek apparently has a different name in the Dunphy house—"fish lips."
Needless to say, that became one of those moments everyone laughed about.
Those little memories may never appear in a photograph, but they're part of what families remember long after the session is over.
The photographs simply become reminders of how everyone felt together.
Spring evenings in Brule offer beautiful soft light that photographs so naturally. Combined with a relaxed family that genuinely enjoys each other's company, it created the perfect setting for timeless portraits.
Parents often worry before family sessions.
Will the kids cooperate?
Will everyone smile?
Will everything go according to plan?
The truth is, some of my favorite images happen between the posed moments.
A genuine laugh.
A child leaning into Mom.
Dad making everyone laugh.
Those are the photographs that become family favorites years later.
Family photos aren't really about perfection.
They're about preserving this season of life before it changes.
Children grow faster than we expect.
Families evolve.
Today's ordinary moments quickly become tomorrow's treasured memories.
If you've been thinking about scheduling family photos in Brule, Superior, or the surrounding Twin Ports area, don't wait for the "perfect" time.
The perfect time is simply when your family is together.
I'd love to help create a relaxed experience where you can slow down, laugh together, and leave with photographs that feel like your family—not stiff poses or forced smiles.
Because years from now, those authentic moments are the ones that matter most.
