Spring Senior Pictures in Superior WI | Kate Craft Photography

There are some senior sessions that you'll always remember.

For me, this one will always be special because it was the beginning of my own daughter's senior year.

One of the perks of having a photographer for a mom is that your senior session doesn't have to fit into one afternoon. Instead of trying to squeeze every location, outfit, and season into a single day, we're telling the story of her entire senior year one chapter at a time.

This spring session was the first chapter.

On the way to prom, we made a quick stop in downtown Superior for a few portraits in her prom dress. I'd been envisioning this location for weeks. The old brick buildings, textured alleyways, and industrial feel were the perfect contrast to her elegant dress.

The weather wasn't what most people hope for.

Gray skies.

Soft light.

No dramatic sunset.

And honestly...

It couldn't have been more perfect.

The overcast skies made the urban setting feel even moodier and let the colors of her dress stand out beautifully against the weathered buildings.

Then came one of those moments that makes every session memorable.

As we stood in front of one of the buildings, Kenley quietly asked,

"Mom...is this considered trespassing?"

Before I could answer, a police officer drove past us, smiled, and gave us a thumbs up.

We both burst out laughing.

Those little moments often become my favorite memories—not because they're planned, but because they're real.

A few days later, we photographed the second part of her spring session in a neighbor's yard beneath one of the most beautiful flowering trees I've ever seen.

If you live in northern Wisconsin, you know exactly how fleeting spring blooms can be.

One week they're covered in vibrant pink and purple blossoms.

The next week they're gone.

The flowering tree was soft and romantic.

The downtown portraits were bold and modern.

Both reflected different sides of who Kenley is.

She's incredibly creative, loves to draw, and has never been someone who fits neatly into one style. Pairing an elegant prom dress with gritty downtown textures felt authentic to her personality, while the blooming trees added a softer side without ever feeling overly posed or overly feminine.

Watching the vision I'd imagined come together exactly the way I hoped was incredibly rewarding.

But even more meaningful was simply spending the evening with my daughter.

As photographers, we're usually behind the camera for everyone else's memories.

Every once in a while, we get to preserve our own.

As both a photographer and a mom, senior year feels different.

You suddenly realize just how quickly eighteen years have gone by.

There are still football games, prom, graduation, and countless milestones ahead—but you can already see the next chapter beginning.

That's why I believe senior pictures should tell a story.

Not just what your senior looked like.

But who they were.

What they loved.

What this season of life felt like.

Whether your senior is drawn to downtown Superior, the Lake Superior shoreline, blooming spring flowers, or somewhere that's meaningful only to your family, we'll build a session around their personality—not around a checklist of poses.

Because years from now, those authentic moments are the ones you'll treasure the most.

If you're beginning to plan senior pictures for your Class of 2027 senior, now is the perfect time to start the conversation.

Spring blooms, summer evenings, fall color, and winter snow all offer something unique. Planning early gives us the flexibility to create a senior gallery that's as individual as your senior.

I'd love to help tell that story.
